Terry Gibbs

Terry Gibbs is a Professor of international politics in the department of L’nu, Political, and Social Studies at Cape Breton University.
Terry’s teaching and research have focused on justice for land, people, and other animals with a particular interest in fostering global citizenship and the compassionate society. She has lived, worked, and conducted research in various parts of the world including Latin America, Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Palestine. She is the author of several publications, including the co-authored book Food in a Just World: Compassionate Eating in a Time of Climate Change (2024, Polity Books), and Why the Dalai Lama is a Socialist: Buddhism and the Compassionate Society (Zed Books, 2017). In her teaching, research, and activism, Terry is interested in connecting the local to the global, finding spaces for agency, and building bridges across communities and social movements to confront and resist structurally violent discourses and practices.
